IndiGo Flight Delays: Reasons, Passenger Impact & What You Should Know
New Delhi | July 04, 2022 | Monday
A major operational disruption hit IndiGo Airlines on Saturday when over 55% of its domestic flights were delayed, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers across India.
According to sources, a large number of IndiGo cabin crew members took medical leave and reportedly participated in an Air India recruitment drive held on the same day.
Why Did This Happen?
Air India, now owned by the Tata Group, is expanding operations and planning to acquire new aircraft. As part of its growth, the airline launched a multi-round hiring campaign.
The second round of this recruitment drive took place on July 2, 2022. Several IndiGo crew members called in sick to attend the selection process, leading to significant staffing shortages.
IndiGo, India's largest airline with nearly 1,600 daily domestic and international flights, witnessed severe disruptions due to the sudden unavailability of crew members.
How Passengers Were Affected
- Long waiting hours at airports
- Multiple last-minute flight delays
- Confusion due to unexpected schedule changes
- Customer service overload and long query resolution times
